Although key data suggests positive economic development for Berlin, high base unemployment remains a problem. The skills, knowledge, and experience of many long-term unemployed Berliners lie untapped. Long-term unemployment also bears grave health risks.
The goal of an active and activating labor market and employment policy must therefore promote the employability of the unemployed through productive work, qualification, and preventative health measures.
