ESF- Pilot Projects

The state of Berlin is supporting diverse pilot projects in order to open new areas of employment, test innovative methods of teaching and learning vocational skills, and encourage self-guided, efficient forms of continuing education. ESF- Pilot Projects for Europe

E-mail Print PDF

Potential cooperation partners in Europe should be able to easily find pilot projects in Berlin that focus on vocational qualification and be able to ask questions about their labor market, education, and integration policy goals a well as about their target groups, content, networks, methods, products, and funding. And stakeholders in vocational education should receive support in the presentation of these projects at international events.

Initial situation

The knowledge society makes new demands on those living and working in it – across Europe! Actively engaged citizens, motivated and self-assured, must take their personal and career development into their own hands; and they must be flexible to meet the requirements of the labor market. Education, training and lifelong learning are now and will continue to be in high demand—putting the quality of vocational and adult education programs to the test.

BerLearner manage knowledge through business processes

Initial situation

Over 90% of Europe’s businesses are small to medium-sized enterprises (SME). Their talent for innovation—including their capacity to develop new products, open new markets, introduce new procedures, test new processes, and much more—is decisive for the economic and social development of all European countries. However SMEs often aren’t as flexible as they need to be and the introduction of new ideas, procedures and software in the field of knowledge management are hardly the order of the day—usually due to a lack of financial resources or know-how.

Initial situation

From an industrial society to a service society: In many areas of Europe the service sector is gaining in importance—to the labor market, to economic development, to overcoming the financial and environmental crisis, to social cohesion, to quality of life, and not least to the attractiveness of countries, areas, or cities. Services have become a significant source of added value.

Initial situation

Europe needs skilled workers: Particularly small and medium-sized businesses are increasingly facing problems in the competition for good, qualified personnel. At the same time, university and polytechnic graduates in many European countries, after completing their exams, are having trouble finding a job that meets their qualifications.

Initial situation

Europe’s need for skilled workers is growing—as are the challenges for vocational education and training programs oriented towards the future. Securing skilled workers in the sector of new technologies in particular has become a structural challenge to economic growth in all European Union countries.

What is true of Europe as a whole is true of Berlin and Brandenburg: ensuring and increasing the employability and skills development of employees at local high technology companies is a driving force behind the growth of industrial development in the capital area.
